Setting:
The setting of The Yellow Birds takes place in Al Tafar, Iraq in 2004.

Plot:
John Bartle is 21 years of age and he is fighting for the American army in Iraq. Private Daniel Murphy which is like John's baby brother is also like his partner.John promised Daniel's mother that he'd watch over Daniel before they were deployed.Their sergeant says John is very stupid to make that promise watch over Daniel because they were heading to a war they both were not ready for. They must stick together to survive the battle they set out for in the city. They do anything and everything they can do to protect each other and survive the harsh war they are in. The privates become very fatigued mentally and physically from all the danger and stress. Thousands of soldiers are dying and they are getting mentally scarred. During the long days of the war Murphy becomes less and less sane and eventually causes him to go mad; all he wants to do is go home. Daniel is captured and left without any hope. John and another private named Sterling find a dead privates body that has been mutilated and killed by the insurgents. It was Murphy's. Bartle eventually makes it home and lives on a farm with his mother. He drinks about a case of beer of day because of his sorrow. He takes long walks usually all day. Luke which is John's best friend calls to see if John would like to go to the lake with him and a few friends. John tells his mother he would think about it because she said he needs to get out more. John goes to his mothers pond and thinks about Murphy. All the things he knew and all the things he didn't get to learn about him.He eventually makes his way out to the lake with his friends, but then he strays away and makes his own fire.

Reflection:

I believe me and my group did a great job on our project. We all worked together to get the job done. Also we all carried our own weight so nobody was slacking off during the whole period of time. We learned how to balance work and fun at the same time to make a great overall experience. This was not the first time we've worked with each other so I feel that we've became very comfortable with each other. I would be glad to work in this group on another project in the future.
My job in the project was to define the plot of the story, the setting, and important characters and their traits. I did my part as well as I could and believe I packed as much of the plot as I could into the page. As I also said I had to define each of the important characters traits. It took a lot of work but I learned more about each character a little more as I did it. The easiest part of my part had to be defining the setting because it is only where the story takes place. I enjoyed this role of in the group very much, and I wouldn’t mind having it again
Our group could have done better with this project. There is no such thing as perfect because something could always be better. We did work very hard on the project but we could have spaced the work out for a less stressful experience. If we would've worked a little more each time we worked together we may have gotten the project done even faster.
I really enjoyed my group and working with them on this project. We worked together and helped each other with misunderstandings in the book. I also enjoyed reading this book. It showed me all the craziness that goes on in the life of a soldier. I really think me working with my group helped boost the great experience. And like I said I wouldn't mind working with them again. Overall it was a great experience reading this book and working on this project. Me and my group all put in effort and it paid off for us at the end by us having a great project to show.
