The Yellow Birds

Keenan Manuirirangi

"The Yellow Birds", is a book about the Iraq war. It includes a great amount of description that can be represented by pictures.Visuals help maintain a better knowledge about the book. Pictures or drawings can help show what types of themes are used in the book. Themes are also identifiable in this book and will give a strong example of information and lessons that can be learned during the book.

Themes

"Friendship"

Many themes in this book are used for example, "Friendship" shows how close Bartle and Murphy are in the story. Bartle and Murphy meet in Fort Dix where they became instant friends. They were so close to each other they were practically brothers. They each shared a deep compassion for the country and their love for each other. Bartle shows his brother ship by being a pure sentry to Murphy. Bartle took on the role of an older brother which revealed the true connection between them. Bartle proves his deep care by promising to Murtle's mother that he will return, even though it was not accomplished. Even in the darkest places of war, Bartle and Murphy carried on their true friendship. Not only were they good friends in war; they were great friends at the civilian level. They were their for each other when things were not at its highest positive point and gave eachother the tips to move on and carry out their needs. Friendship was demonstrated strongly in the book "The Yellow Birds".
Reveals and represents the "care" for each other.

Showes the constant companionship between each of them.

"War"
Another theme that is represented in this book that dominates over other themes would be "War".
War in this book touches every character and everything in some kind of war. War claims itself of many things like peoples lives varying from soldiers to civilians. The war also is taking land from people and how much of a negative effect it has on the people. War is devastating and takes down infrastructure and the true love for people is prevented from war. War is an unstoppable force that was represented in the disastrous after affects in the story.
For the soldiers that gave us hope and served for our country.
Effected many, especially those who gave  lives

Reflection

Withing the group assignment there were many things that had to be completed. I had jobs and responsibilities as a group member to add towards the final outcome of the project. For example, my duty was to analyze the work of the members and talk about what to improve on and about what location each person is in the book; also about what went on during the book. Participating in this project for the book involved displaying a website or blog. We each had to describe the book in some way. The group all had responsibility to show up at houses to analyze what was about the book and write on the website. Participation in this group was important to get the project and book finished on time.

Within the book, The Yellow Birds, it gives a great deal of detail and teaches important lessons that can be used throughout our daily lives. This book teaches us of friendship and love. Friendship is important because it shows the true love between each person. Bartle in this book took the role of an older brother and teaches the ways to be an example and look out for ones that you may love while also showing respect. This book has a great deal of profanity that did not defile the book in any way. Language in this book gave a feel for the scene and acted as if you were a part of it yourself. The detail was extremely beneficial and helpful. Another leeson learned was about war. War had many terrible events that occurred during the book including fatal. War shows that mercy is not given to those who fight for the country. With each soldier that goes out in this book obviously show respect for the country and gives a great feel for the characters like Bartle and Murphy. Murphy’s mother was very protective of her son and did hope for his return. A mother that asks of something to a friend can not always be kept.
Many things were learned in this book. I recommend his book to young adults and adults that may want to learn a lesson of hardships and war. This book was very great and had an affect that made you feel different and lets you realize something that you may not have noticed yourself.
